National Museum of Australia
Canberra, Australia
- Dedicated to a nation's history and cultural impact on the world, the National Museum of Australia represents a technological masterpiece within the walls of an astounding architectural achievement. Canberra Professional Equipment (CPE), a local systems designer and the integration artists behind the museum's control and automation capabilities, was personally selected by the Alliance construction team to oversee and complete the audio/video and IT components throughout the building.
- "Over the past 20 years, we've been involved in designing and installing a large variety of systems," said Nick Benn of CPE. "None of these systems has been able to meet the demanding specifications for the National Museum of Australia, either in sheer volume of controlled devices or in the system's power."
Power Source
- In creating the world's first large-scale implementation of the AMX NetLinx Control System, CPE worked in cooperation with AMX engineers to achieve the goal of creating a museum with state-of-the-art technology. It was deemed essential, from the beginning design stages, that the integration technology blend inconspicuously with each automated exhibit and provide the necessary flexibility for future enhancements. Such demanding requirements called for a powerful control system, which would have a pivotal role in the overall success of this sizable installation. NetLinx quickly became the obvious choice.
- "The magnitude of this decision didn't really strike home until we received the first NetLinx Master for testing," Benn explained. "The firmware which came with this early version revealed only a partial development of the firmware we see today. Some key features, such as timeliness features and Master-To-Master communications, had been discussed but not coded. However, the fundamentals were in place and I was soon able to appreciate some of the insight that had led to the evolution of NetLinx."
Feature Presentation
